TU Delft, Sigbar and Spheer join forces to shape the future of Carto

A strong long-term collaboration is now a reality

To further strengthen and expand Carto, we are partnering with TU Delft and Sigbar over the coming years. This collaboration brings together cutting-edge scientific insights, advanced AI models, and a strong focus on user experience—all within a single platform. Thanks to funding from the European Just Transition Fund (JTF), we’re able to intensify this collaboration and accelerate the development of new capabilities.

Why this collaboration?

Carto is increasingly used for nature monitoring, spatial analysis, and sustainability challenges. To make the platform smarter, more versatile and more accessible, we’re working with experts from different domains:

  • TU Delft contributes its expertise in multi-modal data integration, helping Carto combine different data sources more effectively—such as satellite imagery, ground-based measurements, and other geospatial datasets. This leads to more precise and usable analyses.
  • Sigbar focuses on user experience and interaction, ensuring Carto remains intuitive and easy to use. By making complex AI processes accessible, they help users work smoothly with the platform and fully benefit from its insights.
  • Spheer continues to refine and expand Carto’s AI models, ensuring all components—from satellite data processing to interface—come together in one robust, practical platform.

About the Just Transition Fund

The JTF is a European fund that supports regions undergoing the transition to a climate-neutral economy. Its goal is to prevent growing regional inequalities and strengthen the economic structure in areas most affected by this transition. In line with broader EU cohesion policy, the JTF focuses on reducing regional disparities and promoting sustainable development. In the Netherlands, the fund supports projects that contribute to economic diversification and the strengthening of knowledge and innovation—such as in the province of Groningen.
